perinatal Mental healthBecoming a parent is one of the most transformative journeys a person will experience. For some it can be a time for self awareness, reflection and deepening of relationships. For others it may be a time filled with anxiety, fear and distress. After baby arrives the family will be in a time of transition, navigating new roles and learning how to care for and attune to baby. I believe every parent deserves to be held and cared for as they navigate their pregnancy and birth journey.

Did you know that the first 5 years of a child's life accounts for 90% of their brain development? These years provide a framework for how a person will be in future relationships and teaches them what to expect of others. I am passionate about supporting parents and their young children to navigate this crucial time period of development. I help parents to enhance their ability to reflect on their child's experiences and provide psychoeducation to better understand their child's struggles.
art therapyArt therapy is about tapping into your creative side in order to discover things within yourself that can help you to move forward, heal, and transform. It's not about being an artist, and it isn't about creating beautiful image. It's about using art media and the process that follows to explore your inner self. The joy, the love, the struggle, the pain. When we create we access a different part of ourselves that allows us to heal. Our images may take one session or may take months, we can speak to them, learn from them, and discover new perspectives on old ideas.

TRAUMA COUNSELINGWebster's Dictionary defines trauma as "a very difficult or unpleasant experience that causes someone to have mental or emotional problems usually for a long time." Trauma comes in many forms, some of which include; abuse, neglect, assault, domestic violence, accidents, suicide, forced displacement, war, or witnessing violence against another person. Children may have a traumatic response if separated from a primary caregiver or other significant member of their lives because they literally depend on these people for their survival.
This is a place where you can bring your authentic feelings regarding your hardship and know that you will be seen, heard and supported. You will never be rushed to disclose or address your grief or trauma. These things have their own timelines and it is important that you feel safe in order to transform your experience. |

Part of how we heal is in relation to one another, sharing our experiences and our stories can help us to feel a sense of community. For a lot of people hearing someone else's story is the first time they may not feel so alone in their own. When we come together we all bring our unique insight and experiences. You never know when your words may help another person.
REFLECTIVE SUPERVISION/CONSULTATION
Reflective supervision is a strength-based approach, focusing on the supervisees strengths and uncovering client strengths. It utilizes collaborative problem solving, parallel process and reflection. It encourages the use of self in order to understand how our backgrounds, values, and histories influence our perspectives. Most importantly Reflective Supervision is a relationship based practice supporting the concept that we learn best while engaged in safe and supportive relationships. When supervisees are supported in this way they can then learn how to carry over these relational skills into work with their clients. Often in supervision I will also utilize art therapy directives and techniques in order to support supervisees to explore clinical and personal issues on a deeper level and gain differing perspectives.
