The SMC is an evidence-based mental health program to break the cycle of trauma, one parent at a time.

Pregnancy and becoming a parent can be hard for anyone. It can                             be especially hard for those who have survived traumatic                    childhood experiences, such as being abused or neglected.

The Survivor Moms' Companion (SMC) offers one-on-one support            for people with a history of past abuse, neglect, or other childhood trauma. It teaches you skills to help you deal with emotions, trauma reactions, and relationships during pregnancy and early parenting.

You do not have to be a client at Connected Journeys Counseling to join the SMC program.

The SMC can teach you to manage triggers that remind you of past trauma, ride out intense emotions better, and have better relationships with your baby and your care team.

What happens in the SMC program?

Step 1: Is the SMC Right For Me?
The SMC is open to clients who are pregnant or have recently given birth and feel affected by past abuse or neglect.

You can visit "The Fitting Room" to see if the SMC program feels like a good fit before making an appointment. During your initial consultation, we will talk through the program and answer any questions you have.
Book An initial consultation
Step 2: Sign-up and Intake Forms
If you are ready to join, I will send you some online forms to fill out before we start. You do not have to share anything about your trauma in these forms or during the program.

Step 3: Core Four Chapters

The SMC program includes a workbook with 10 chapters and one-on-one support calls with a trained mentor. The first four chapters of the SMC are called the "Core Four" because those teach the most important information about pregnancy and parenting for survivors.

We will meet and go through the workbook together, about one chapter per week. Each chapter also has videos you can watch instead, if you learn better that way.

Step 4: Additional Chapters (Optional)
After learning the basics, we can customize the rest of the program to whatever is most important to you. We can do as many of the remaining chapters as you'd like.

Step 5: Ending Assessment
Once you've finished the SMC Program, I will send you some surveys to wrap up our time together. If there are any other ways I can help you, I'd be happy to!
